Violets in Sports by Marlene Cieshinger our Sports Editor

Did you ever hear about sport clubs, called "The Violets". There are several football clubs nicknamed after the flowers, indeed. This name is derived from the official colours, which contain the colour violet of course. In Austria there is FK Austria Memphis of Vienna, in Germany we have Tennis Borussia Berlin, FC Erzgebirge Aue and former SC Vorwarts Billstedt, all of them definitely surnamed "Die Veilchen". The A.C. Fiorentina in Italy is called "Viola" and some fan clubs of other violet teams use the appellation "Viola", too. In the future I would like to introduce to you these clubs and tell you about their history, their actual position in their countries leagues and what is special about each of them.
