Groves Dorset Violets
The firm of C.W.Groves and Son was founded in 1866 in the village of Piddletrenthide near Dorchester in Dorset, United Kingdom.
Its main concern was growing plants for seed distribution. The founder, Charles William Groves was the great, great grandfather of the present owner of the firm, Clive Watt Groves.
It was Clive Groves' father the late Mr Charles William Groves, whose great love of Violets enabled the firm to build from the first variety advertised ( Princess of Wales) in 1946 to the present day, 50 plus varieties.
