V. odorata

There are many cultivars see Single Violet Listings

Also known under many names

Devon Violet. Still to be found growing wild in parts of Devon ( UK), seeking the cool moisture of woodlands , banks and hedgerows. It is easy to naturalise under those shady, moist conditions and will thrive there. The plants, with usually deep purple fragrant flowers, attract fritillary species of butterflies.
